Nicknamed "Pistol Pete", Maravich starred in college at Louisiana State University (LSU) and for three NBA teams. Maravich is still the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer, averaging a staggering 44.2 points per game, without the benefit of a three-point line and despite the fact that when Pete was in his first year of college, the NCAA had separate freshmen and varsity basketball teams and freshmen were not allowed to play on the varsity team. Years later former LSU head basketball coach Dale Brown charted every college game Maravich played, taking into consideration all shots Pete took. The coach calculated that at the NCAA rule of a three-point line at 19-foot, 9-inches from the rim, Maravich would have averaged thirteen 3-point scores per game, which would have given the player a career average of 57 points per game. In ten NBA seasons, Maravich, a five time NBA All-Star, scored 15,948 points in 658 games for a 24.2 points per game average (16th All Time).
Dominque Wilkins was known as the human Highlight Film for his incredible playmaking ability and tenacious dunks. Wilkins led the Hawks to a first place finish in 1987, averaging 29 ppg. A nine-time NBA All-Star and the winner of two NBA Slam Dunk Contests, Wilkins registered 26,668 points and 7,169 rebounds in his NBA career. His career points total ranks him ninth in career scoring, and he is one of just 14 players to total 25,000 points or more for a career. He is one of four players to have had their jerseys retired by the Hawks. He is widely considered to be one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history, though he was left off the list in 1997.
